Do you think it's easier to get out of debt when you're single? Have you ever hoped someone would rescue you financially?

Universe/ God wanted me to hear tonight's message. I am newly single and facing a mountain of debt. I am on Social Security Disabilty and get $800 a month. Living with my partner for 20 years has helped me live way beyond my means. I am left with owing July's rent and August is here tomorrow. I had to do two postdated checks and reduce cable services to keep Internet and 20 channels. I have over $700 in credit cards due for the month of August. I am totally clueless how to get out of this much debt on my own. I need help! God help me. I am trying to trust things will work out but it feels almost impossible right now. Staying out of bed is not a problem because the damage to my heart will keep me single forever! I am working on me and cleaning out my closet. Literally cleaning out the old relationship belongings. With hatred and anger being my motivation. God help me to love again. To trust again.

Eve, there are resources to help with the credit card debt. Not sure now many u have, but consumer credit counseling can take them & combine into a payment which in general will reduce your monthly payments. if I can help more please feel free to reach out. I recently lost my wife after 32 years so I understand..

Eve, Getting out of debt is not easy, but is definitely worth it. Check out this spending plan and see if it might be helpful for you as you tackle your debt and start living on a new budget. Breakups are rough, and learning to love and trust yourself (and other people) again after a bad one is no small task. We hope you'll consider checking out Andy's series on dating and even signing up for the related email plan: The New Rules for Love, Sex & Dating. Thanks for joining the convo, Eve!

I called Consumer Credit Counseling woah. $400 a month for 4 years to close out 9 credit cards. I have 15! This is going to be a challenge. I can't do that my rent is $350 and car payment is almost $400. I get $800 Overwhelmed for real.

I would recommend you consolidate all the cards onto the one card with the lowest interest rate. You really need to do some plastic surgery and by that I mean cut those credit cards in half close the accounts, throw away the cards and don't get them again. The interest rates on credit cards are ridiculous and debt is a prison.

Everyone says it's easier to get out of debt when you're single. But I've never been married to know the alternative. I do think (and know) that having an accountability partner...whether it's a spouse or trusted friend) is key. When I had a 'budget buddy' I was able to stay on track. Without it, I'm right back where I started.
